December is all about bracing for the winter, spending time with your loved ones for the holidays, and of course, all of the seasonal events for you to enjoy.
D.C. is a haven for some of the best festivals and events, and this time of year, they have some of the best events to offer. If you’re looking for an event to help you get into the holiday spirit, look no further! We have gathered the top four events that you and all of your loved ones could enjoy:
Zoolights at the National Zoo
From Nov. 25 to Jan. 1, except for Dec. 24 and 25, the National Zoo in Woodley Park is open to visitors from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. everyday for a magical and wintry experience. An annual tradition, Zoolights transforms the National Zoo into a winter wonderland with LED lights to create a light show set to seasonal music. While you explore the nocturnal animal exhibits throughout the zoo, you can enjoy live musical performances, tasty winter treats and even get some holiday shopping done. Winternational Celebration
D.C. is known for being a melting pot of different ethnicities and cultures. On Dec. 7, D.C. celebrates that diversity with Winternational, a celebration showcasing the different cultural and culinary traditions of the diplomatic community. Each embassy in D.C. promotes their country through displays of vibrant art, food, handcrafts, and tourism and travel exhibits. You can even get some holiday shopping done and buy a special gift for any of your international loved ones. Six Flags: Holiday in the Park
Six Flags America in Baltimore is always a great day trip outside of D.C., but this season, you have the opportunity to explore the park as a winter wonderland. Take a ride on their seasonal thrill rides such as the Peppermint Swirl, Reindeer’s Flight and ROAR, as well as the rides that have been transformed into a light show such as Ragin Cajun and Pirate’s Flight. You can also enjoy special holiday treats and dinners at any of the cafes, restaurants and stands around the park. Season’s Greenings at the U.S. Botanic Garden
Join the U.S. Botanic Garden for their annual holiday show. Season’s Greenings will surround you with the essence of the holiday with a display of the largest indoor tree decorated with ornaments from national parks, a model train show, seasonal plants and live music.
