How to Celebrate Labor Day in D.C.

Get ready for Labor Day, Washingtonians!

Labor Day is Sept. 5, and we know you will want to make plans to celebrate over the weekend and into the holiday. Some may celebrate by taking a three-day trip out of the city. Some may have a big family cookout. Some may celebrate the end of summer by visiting a water-themed amusement park. Some may even sleep in all weekend. Whatever you are interested it, there are a great deal of things to do in D.C. for Labor Day.

While D.C. isn’t well known for celebrating Labor Day with a giant parade, there are still events happening all weekend. Go out and celebrate as summer closes to an end in D.C.

Here are a few ways you can celebrate Labor Day in D.C. this weekend:

1) The Kennedy Center Page-to-Stage Festival: Every Labor Day weekend, the Kennedy Center hosts more than 40 local theater companies and offers free readings and open rehearsals of plays and musicals. So, if you love theatre, make your way to the Kennedy Center on Labor Day weekend to experience this year’s tribute to the Women’s Voices Theater Festival, an initiative by local theaters to produce a world-premiere play by a female dramatist. 2) America’s pastime in D.C.: If you’re a baseball fan, you’ll want to watch the Washington Nationals face off against the Atlanta Braves at Nationals Park on Labor Day. Tickets are sure to sell fast, so be sure to gather a group of your friends and family and purchase tickets online to grab some good seats. You don’t want to miss this game. Click here for more information on how to purchase tickets.

3) Celebrate the end of summer by drinking cool cocktails on a rooftop: What better way to end this hottest of D.C. summers by sharing a cocktail with friends on the rooftop of some of D.C.’s best rooftop bars? Visit El Centro D.F. in Logan Circle and enjoy a Mojito Mexicano or a special cocktail with rum, grapefruit soda and fresh lime. Try a classic mimosa while eating some country fried chicken and waffles at Marvin’s, where you can also hear the DJ spin on weekends during brunch. 4) Visit the ICEBERGS exhibit: Sept. 5 is the last day of the ICEBERGS exhibit at the National Building Museum. The exhibit opened as part of the annual Summer Block Party series on July 2, which allowed visitors to explore an extraordinary glacial sea designed by landscape architects. Grab a couple of your friends and family and slide down an ice chute or catch a view of the entire exhibit inside the tallest berg! Click here to learn more about this exhibit.

No matter what you enjoy, whether it is a baseball game, visiting an interactive art exhibit or just sharing a few cocktails among friends, there are tons of things you can do to celebrate the end to summer.
