New trendy bars are always popping up in D.C., but what better place for them to appear than Fourteenth Street, abundant with enthusiastic bar hoppers? Here are two new additions to the Fourteenth Street bar scene:
Vieux Carre DC
This New Orleans-style bar has a name reflective of its theme: Vieux Carre literally translates to “Old Square” or more commonly known as the French Quarter. Each of their cocktails has a New Orleans flair and originate from the deep southern state. Not only do they come from New Orleans, but their cocktails are especially unique. They have a delicious and extraordinary absinthe frappe; a Hurricane made with dark rum, passion fruit syrup, fresh lemon or lime juice, garnished with an orange slice or cherry; a Sazerac made with Absinthe, rich simple syrup, Peychaud’s Bitters, and rye whiskey, and so much more.
The entire bar has a southern luxurious charm with a ballroom twist with dark wooden walls, marble floors, and chandeliers hanging above. You can try their special cocktails during happy hour from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Visit their website for more information.
Kingfisher
Kingfisher is a truly unique bar without a kitchen but plenty of cocktails to make up for their lack of food (as well as a considerate rule that patrons are allowed to bring outside food). It is a combination of good brews, shots, bad movies and free popcorn. There will also be a jukebox with a selection of music to play, as well as Trivia Tuesdays and lengthy happy hours on weeknights from 4 to 8 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on weekends.
Kingfisher also has a retro design with a back bar counter made from old workbenches from a General Motors plant, as well as lit old factory windows, and the back bar mirror from an old carnival ride. Click here for more information.
