Three D.C. Ice Rinks to Visit This Year

Winter is almost here, which means all of your favorite winter activities are back for the season: drinking hot chocolate or eggnog wrapped in a warm blanket, playing in the snow, attending winter-themed parties and festivals, and enjoying the winter cocktails at your favorite local bar. However, there is one highly anticipated winter activity you don’t have to wait for.

Ice skating season has already begun and people are flocking to the rinks. Maryland and Virginia have several ice skating rinks to choose from, but D.C. also has a few beloved ice skating rinks to Washingtonians.

Here are the D.C. ice skating rinks you should visit for the winter season:

The National Gallery of Art

The National Gallery of art’s ice skating rink is a D.C. favorite. The rink has a park-like setting on the National Mall, surrounded by beautiful sculptures. The Pavilion Café offers a panoramic view of the entire Sculpture Garden and ice rink, as well as a variety of food and beverages for you and your family or friends to partake in after trying out the ice. Washington Harbour Ice Rink

As the largest outdoor skating spot in D.C., this ice rink takes residence in the Washington Harbour’s circular fountain. The Potomac River makes a beautiful and romantic backdrop for anyone looking for the perfect winter date. Click here for information about hours and admission.

Canal Park Ice Rink

Canal Park, a fairly new park to D.C., is one of Capitol Riverfront’s many new neighborhood attractions. However, if you don’t like the other crowded rinks, this is the place for you. The Canal Park ice skating rink is less known than the ice rinks in Georgetown and at the National Gallery of Art, so it doesn’t attract a very large crowd. Click here for more information about rink and its nearby refreshments.
