That special time of year is quickly approaching, which means our beloved capital will begin to set the city for the holiday spirit. Every year since 1923, Washingtonians gather near the White House for the most anticipated event of the year.
Dec. 1 is the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, and it is an event you won’t want to miss! Although, the online ticket lottery is now closed, you can anticipate entering the lottery next year or hope to grab a ticket from a friend or good Samaritan and watch the ceremony on the Hallmark Channel on Dec. 5. Tune in and see the military band perform, Barack Obama send his last message of peace to the nation and the world as president of the United States, and many wonderful performances with Academy Award-winner Reese Witherspoon as host.
Here is a list of the performers you will see at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony:
- Chance The Rapper
- Kelly Clarkson
- James Taylor
- Yolanda Adams
- The Lumineers
- Garth Brooks
- Trisha Yearwood
If any of these performers are among your favorite, you should tune into the Hallmark Channel on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. You can also visit the tree from Dec. 1 until Jan. 1 where you can view seasonal displays and enjoy musical performances from volunteer choirs, dancers and bands.
