The Washington Nationals made history when they swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS to earn a spot in the 2019 World Series. Not only is it the first time that this hardy franchise has advanced to the Fall Classic, it’s the first time any DC-based squad has done so since the New Deal.
If you can’t make it to Nationals Park to see the team in person, you still have plenty of opportunities around town to view the games. Here are a few local hangouts where you can root for the Nationals on the big screen as they strive for MLB’s biggest honor, the Commissioner’s Trophy.
The Bullpen
Renowned as the traditional pre-game hangout for Nats supporters during the regular season, the Bullpen is now a great venue to watch the World Series—they’re showing all the games on a 12-foot outdoor screen. Doors open early to give fans plenty of time to take in all the food, drinks, live music, tailgate games, and general excitement that they can handle. Just head over to 1201 Half Street SE on game day and join the festivities. Admission is free!
Penn Social
Speaking of big screens, Penn Social has up to ten of them going at any given time, and one of them is a 22-foot monster. DC-based beers (3 Stars, DC Brau, etc.) are $5 all night long during the Series. With a wide array of games and amusements ranging from Skee-Ball to ping pong, there’s a good chance you’ll never want to leave. They’re located at 801 E Street NW.
The Salt Line
Who says seafood and baseball don’t mix? Not the proprietors of the Salt Line, located just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Nationals Park. On top of that, it’s co-owned by Nats first baseman Ryan Zimmerman! Go to 79 Potomac Ave SE to catch Mr. National and company on one of the Salt Line’s big TV screens during the Series.
The Occidental
Trivia time: Where did the Washington Senators go to celebrate after winning the 1924 World Series? The Occidental, of course! In 2019, this historic restaurant is holding watch parties, complete with happy hour specials, during the World Series. Give them a visit at 1475 Pennsylvania Ave NW.
Duffy’s Irish Pub
The site of the “Best Wings in DC” also has eight huge TVs with stadium surround sound, so Nats fans can watch the World Series in style. They’re offering $4 Tallboys for the duration of the Series. The fun happens at 1016 H Street NE.
